Ghanaian musician Dr Cryme has clarified that his stage name is unrelated to criminal activity, explaining that it is a carefully crafted artistic identity.

Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, he addressed public misconceptions about his name.
“My name ‘CRYME’ is an abbreviation and is nothing closer to any criminal activity,” he asserted.

He explained that the name reflects his creativity and uniqueness as an artist.
“As a creative person, when you are starting something, you have to come up with something unique, and this is the first and only name I have chosen for my music career,” he explained.

Breaking down the meaning, he revealed:
“CRYME means Creative Rhymes You Most Enjoy,” he noted.

Dr Cryme also elaborated on the significance of the “Dr” prefix in his name, linking it to his role as a musician.
“We all know doctors are people we visit when we are sick, so in my line of work, my music should be a source of motivation, encouragement, and healing,” he said.

He described his music as therapeutic in nature.
“My work is like a therapy in music, a remedy for those who are weak in rhymes and in life, ” he said.

He noted that some people even mistake “Dr” for his real name, a perception he has embraced.
“When others hear ‘Dr.,’ they think it is my first name, which is Darlington, and I accept it,” he noted.

Addressing the broader idea behind his branding, he emphasized the importance of curiosity in creativity.
“As humans, we have to be an abstract of what we are to spark curiosity and create conversations, and that is the reason behind my brand name,” he explained.

He added that his stage name has never created any problems for him.
“There has not been any situation where my choice of name has caused me issues,” he added.
